With the release of the 2.3 update back in 2020, Hello Games added Living Ships to the No Man's Sky world. Living Ships are basically organic starships that are a cross between a traditional starship and a creature.

However, hatching a living ship is not a straightforward process. You need to follow some specific steps and requirements to obtain one. In this guide, we will show you how to get a living ship of your own.

Step 1: The first thing you need to hatch a Living Ship in No Man's Sky is a Void Egg. You can buy a Void Egg from the Quicksilver companion on the space anomaly. You will need 3,200 Quicksilver for this, which can be earned by completing daily and weekly missions.

Step 2: The next thing you need to do is to make sure you have all the glyphs required for portal travel. You will need 16 glyphs in total to complete the Star Birth quest.

Step 3: Once you have a Void Egg and all the glyphs, you can trigger the event that will start the Star Birth quest. To do this, enter your starship and pulse drive through any system. Keep pulse driving until you see a rare space event notification on the right-hand side of your screen.

Step 4: When you see the rare space event notification, follow the marker on your screen to locate the living ship. It will look like a large organic creature floating in space. Approach it and interact with it by pressing the appropriate button.

Step 5: After the dialogue, the living ship will provide you with coordinates to a specific system. The coordinates will be displayed in your mission log. Therefore, check your mission log to keep track of them.

Step 6: To travel to the system provided by the living ship, you will need to use a portal. Once you find a portal, activate it by inserting the required materials into each glyph slot. Then, input the coordinates given by the living ship using the glyphs you have collected.

Step 7:When you enter the portal, you will arrive at the specified system. Use your ship’s scanner to locate the “anomalous” planet mentioned in your Void Egg’s description.

Step 8:On the anomalous planet, you will find an objective marker that will lead you to an ancient structure. This structure could be a Monolith or a Plaque, depending on the planet.

Step 9: When you reach the ancient structure, interact with it by pressing the appropriate button. You will access a terminal that will display some text and images related to the living ship’s history and origin. Read carefully and choose your responses wisely, as they may affect your relationship with the living ship.

Step 10:After accessing the ancient structure, you will receive information about the required blueprint for crafting an item called Consciousness Bridge. To find Hexite, follow the clues provided by the ancient structure.

Step 11:Once you have gathered enough Hexite, you can craft the Consciousness Bridge using the blueprint you received from the ancient structure. You will also need some other materials, typically Pugnium and Corvex Casings, which can be obtained from killing sentinels or buying from vendors. Craft the Consciousness Bridge in your inventory by selecting the appropriate slot and pressing the craft button.

Step 12:After crafting the Consciousness Bridge, return to the Monolith or Plaque you visited earlier with the item in your inventory. Interact with the ancient machine at the structure and insert the Consciousness Bridge into it. This will initiate a process that will transfer some of the living ship’s essence into your Void Egg.

Step 13:The machine will output a cluster of cells, and you will receive a fragile neural stem in your inventory. The maturation process takes 20 hours in real-time, and you can check its progress by hovering over it in your inventory.

If you want to bypass the waiting time, you can disconnect your console or PC from the internet and change your system’s clock to advance 20 hours.

Step 14:Once your neural stem matures, you can proceed with the Star Birth Mission to obtain your living ship.

After following all the above-listed steps, you will be able to hatch your Void Egg and claim your living ship as your own.
