To make peach cobbler with canned peaches, the following ingredients will be needed:

  • Canned peaches with syrup
  • All-purpose flour
  • Baking powder
  • Granulated sugar: White and brown both can be used. Brown sugar will change the color of cobbler.
  • Salt
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Milk
  • Unsalted butter

How to make (Step by step instructions)?

Making peach cobbler with canned peaches is so easy that even kids can make it (of course under some supervision while handling the oven). To make it just follow the steps below:

Step 1 and 2: Melt butter in the baking pan by putting it in the oven while it's getting pre-heated. You can also microwave the butter for a few seconds but never leave oil or butter in the microwave for more than 30 seconds at a time.

Step 3 and 4: While the butter is getting melted, prepare the batter by first mixing all the dry ingredients of the batter.

Step 5 and 6: Add milk and whisk.

Step 7: Whisk until you get a smooth cake-like batter.

Step 8 and 9: Pour this batter on top of the melted butter.

Step 10: Gently pour canned peaches along with the syrup on top of the batter. Don't mix.

Step 11: Put the tray in a pre-heated oven and bake at 180°C (350°F) for around 45-50 minutes or until the batter gets nicely baked and gets a golden brown color.

Step 12: Take out the baking dish and allow it to get slightly colder. Serve warm.

Serving suggestions

Always serve the crumble warm.

It tastes the best with a dollop of vanilla ice cream. You can also enjoy it with some whipped cream.

Can it be made with fresh peaches?

Yes, this peach crumble can also be made with fresh peaches. In fact, that's the traditional way of making it. I have used canned peaches because it makes the process easier and quicker. Also, by using canned peaches it becomes possible to enjoy peach crumble throughout the year.

If you want to make it with fresh peaches, first prepare the peach filling by following the steps below:

  • Slice around 5 large peaches and cook them with ¾ cup sugar, ¼ teaspoon salt, and a dash of cinnamon.
  • Cook for a few minutes i.e. until the sugar gets completely dissolved. Allow it to reach room temperature and then use this filling in the recipe instead of canned peaches.

Making vegan version of canned peach cobbler

You can easily make the vegan version of this easy peach cobbler by just replacing butter with margarine and milk with plant-based milk. Also, make sure that the sugar that you are using is vegan.

Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between cobbler, crisp, and crumble?

Cobbler, crisp, and crumble are quite similar but the main difference is in their topping.
The topping of cobbler is made with either biscuit dough or cake batter. The topping of crisp is crumbly and crispy because of the oats that are used in it. Crumble has an oat less crumble topping.

How to store peach cobbler?

The peach cobbler will be fine without refrigerating (at room temperature) for a day. On cold days, it will be fine for up to 2 days.
To store for a longer period wrap the baking dish with cling wrap or aluminum foil and keep it in the fridge. The cobbler will be fine for 4-5 days. However, before serving reheat in the microwave.

Recipe tips and tricks

  • You can follow the same recipe to make cobbler with your choice of fruits and berries.
  • A combination of different fruits or berries can be used too.
  • If you want more peaches in your cobbler, increase the quantity of peaches in the recipe but don't add more syrup.
  • This recipe will give you a cobbler that has nicely baked golden brown edges with a gooey center. That's my preferred way of enjoying a cobbler. If you don't want a gooey center, don't use the entire can of syrup
  • You can also sprinkle more ground cinnamon on top of the peaches before baking for extra flavor.

A easy recipe to manage with a five year old that loves Peacha Cobbler, as she would say. Very delicious, I added a lot of peaches to this recipe with extra cinnamon to top off the crust. I will be serving with Vanilla bean ice cream and a dollop of whip cream.

113 grams of butter equals 4 oz. You say to use a stick (8 oz.). 4 oz or 8 oz? Why do you mix grams with American measurements? Confusing.

    Reply

    • Easy peach cobbler with canned peaches - quick dessert recipe (26)Vandana Chauhan

Hi Margaret. Sorry, I couldn't find where I have written 8 Oz. I have clearly given the measurement in grams. Currently I am in Dubai and the butter stick which I got was of 113 grams which I mentioned in the recipe card also. If the butter stick that you have got is larger, please cut it to make it equivalent to 113 grams.

Hi Linda. Thanks for your comment. I have never made cobbler with cooked apples, I use them raw so can't really comment on that. In this peach cobbler recipe, I have used one can of peaches of 420 grams, you can use approximately the same amount of apples.

      • Easy peach cobbler with canned peaches - quick dessert recipe (39)Vandana Chauhan

Hi Martie. I am sorry to hear that this recipe is not working for you. I am not sure what's causing the problem as for me it comes out perfect every time so I am assuming a few reasons. Different ovens behave differently so if your cobbler is turning rubbery may be it's getting overbaked. You may try to bake it for a lesser time. If only the outer layer is turning rubbery and inside it's still undone then cover the baking dish with an aluminium foil and bake covered for initial 15-20 minutes then do the remaining baking uncovered. Hope that helps.

How long do I need to bake it if I double the recipe?

    Reply

    • Easy peach cobbler with canned peaches - quick dessert recipe (41)Vandana Chauhan

Hi Elaine. If you are doubling the recipe take a larger baking pan so that the thickness of the cobbler remains almost the same. You can increase the time by 5-10 minutes. First, check after 5 minutes, if it's not ready bake longer.

[ I don’t know if this blog is still operative, but just in case…]

I’ve been married for almost 62 years and have been using a version of this cobbler recipe for almost all that time. My family (now including 5 great-grandchildren, plus 2/3 of another, and it’s a boy; no girls in any generation) love this dessert. When we’re all gathered, I use a lasagna pan and triple the contents. It’s always a big hit, especially with a generous topping of Blue Bell ice cream, an incomparable Texas brand with almost no ingredients except milk, cream, and such basic flavorings as vanilla, chocolate, and fruit.
