Cold Finger Foods

Mini Sandwiches

Nothing says ‘yummy and easy-to-make’, better than a tray full of tiny little sandwiches, just waiting to be grabbed and gobbled. Everyone likes sandwiches, so you don’t need to worry about that either. Here’s how you get that tray of mini sandwiches ready in a jiffy.

You’ll need

  • Onions ~ minced and dried, 2 tbsp
  • Parsley ~ 5 sprigs or enough for flavor
  • Butter ~ melted, ½ cup
  • Ham ~ chopped, ½ lb
  • Swiss cheese ~ thinly sliced, ½ lb
  • Poppy seeds ~ 2 tbsp
  • Dinner rolls or Bread ~ 24 (rolls) or 12 (bread slices cut into 4 parts each)

Here’s how you make them–

  • First, pre heat the oven to 325ºF.
  • Next, take a bowl and mix all the ingredients in it, except the ham, cheese and the poppy seeds.
  • Once the mixture is ready, you can open the dinner rolls and apply the mixture generously in the middle. Do the same if you have bread slices too.
  • Now, after you’ve applied the mixture, you can place the small pieces of ham, along with the cheese slices in the middle and place the sandwiches on a baking tray.
  • Now, take the poppy seeds and sprinkle them all over the sandwiches.
  • After this, place the tray in the oven and let the sandwiches get baked for about 20 minutes. Another option is to bake it until you can see that the cheese has melted.
  • Your mini sandwiches are ready to serve! You can substitute the ham with any other meat and even replace the spread with whatever you want.

Cheese Sauce with Chips

If there’s one all time favorite cold finger food that can please any kind of crowd, and distract them long enough for you to prepare the main course, it’s chips and dip. Let’s check out a ridiculously easy recipe for a delicious cheese sauce that the chips can be served with.

You’ll need–

  • Flour ~ 3 tbsp
  • Butter ~ 3 tbsp
  • Cheddar cheese ~ grated, 1½ cup
  • Milk ~ 1½ cup
  • Salt ~ ½ tsp

Here’s how you make it–

  • First, place the butter in a pan and melt it completely.
  • Take it off the heat and then, you can begin adding the flour to the butter, while stirring it continuously to avoid the formation of lumps.
  • Then, add the milk slowly, while stirring.
  • Now, place this on extremely low heat, until the mixture reaches a slightly thick consistency.
  • Add the grated cheese to this mixture, and keep stirring until the cheese is completely melted and the mix has a smooth texture and a thick enough consistency.
  • Let this cool down completely, garnish with chili flakes and then serve it with the chips!

Herbs and Eggs

If you are one of ‘those’ who eats only healthy food and wants to make sure that everyone around you also eats only healthy food, then here’s one for you.

You’ll need–

  • Eggs ~ boiled, half of the total number of people
  • Coriander ~ 1 bunch
  • Mint ~ ½ cup
  • Garlic ~ 5 cloves
  • Water ~ 1 to 1½ cup
  • Salt ~ to taste

Here’s how you make it–

  • First, finely chop the coriander and the mint.
  • Now, chop the garlic into tiny pieces as well.
  • Add the coriander, mint and garlic into a mixer and add a little water.
  • Turn on the mixer and let the leaves get totally crushed.
  • Open the lid and add the remaining water to the mixture and turn on the mixer once again.
  • Let all the ingredients get formed into a paste with a thick consistency.
  • Then, remove this herb sauce, and place it in a nice looking bowl.
  • Cut the boiled eggs in halves, let them cool down and place them on a tray.
  • Serve the herb sauce with the eggs as a healthy and tasty pre meal dish.

Cake Pops

First of all, what are cake pops? I’m sure you’re all well aware of lollipops. Now, simply substitute that yummy piece of candy with an even yummier piece of chocolate chip cake! Yes, I guessed that would grant me your undivided attention. So, let us see how to make them, shall we?

You’ll need–

  • Chocolate chip cookie mix ~ 1 pack
  • Butter ~ room temperature, ½ cup
  • Vanilla frosting ~ 1 cup
  • Egg ~ 1
  • Cooking spray ~ enough to spray the baking sheet
  • Dark chocolate ~ melted, 2-3 cups
  • Lollipop sticks ~ according to number of people

Here’s how you make it–

  • Pre heat the oven to 350ºF.
  • Take a big baking sheet and spray it with a liberal amount of the cooking spray.
  • Now, take a mixing bowl and whip the egg, butter and cookie mix them until they reach the consistency of cookie dough.
  • Use a deep spoon to make a number of dollops on the baking tray, according to the number of people you’re expecting.
  • Place this in the oven for about 15 minutes.
  • Take them out and let them cool down.
  • Now, after the cookies have cooled down, take more than half of them and crumble them into a bowl with the vanilla frosting and whip until they reach a crumbly, chocolate chippy consistency.
  • Make small ‘pops’ and place on the baking tray.
  • Tuck in lollipop sticks into the ‘pops’ and place in a freezer for half an hour.
  • After freezing, dip them (one by one) in the melted and cooled down dark chocolate and serve!

After all those scrumptious and easy to prepare cold finger foods, there’s no way they can say that they didn’t enjoy them! They’re simple, tasty, healthy and a little pampering! Perfect ingredients for a happy stomach, don’t you think?
